I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

Home > Pastor’s Note > I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.
I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.
I'm looking for the coming of Christ. I want to be with Jesus.

It is with excitement that we continue to journey through Advent; the season of four weeks, including four Sundays, leading up to Christmas. Advent comes from the Latin adventus which means “coming.” Thus, “the season proclaims the comings of the Christ – whose birth we prepare to celebrate once again, who comes continually in Word and Spirit, and whose return in final victory we anticipate.” (The United Methodist Book of Worship)

The season of Advent calls us to anticipate and prepare for these comings. An important part of the anticipation and preparation  during Advent is found in our shared worship together. This Advent, we will focus on Living as a Child of the Light. On the First Sunday of Advent we heard Jeremiah's proclamation that the Light of the World is coming. On the Second Sunday of Advent, we heard John the Baptist's proclamation to prepare the way for the Light of the World. On the Third Sunday of Advent we learned to live our faith as a Child of the Light, demonstrated in the life of Joseph. The Fourth Sunday of Advent had Mary showing us how to give ourselves in faith as a Child of the Light. On Christmas Eve, we will celebrate that the True Light has come into the world.

I invite and encourage you to come and be a part of our Sunday worship during this Advent and Christmas season. I also invite and encourage you to share in the other special times of worship and fellowship during this Holy Season of Advent.

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.
I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.
I'm looking for the coming of Christ. I want to be with Jesus.

Grace and Peace,

Kevin
