Lent and Easter
The Season of Lent is again upon us. Ash Wednesday is March 1, 2017. As we prepare to enter into this Holy Season at Caswell Springs, we are reminded that “Lent is the season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. The season is a preparation for celebrating Easter.” (The United Methodist Book of Worship)
As we did last year, I encourage each of us to consider how we might engage more deeply in the season. As you recall, Lent calls us into a deep introspective examination of ourselves and our faith. Many will enter into the Lenten journey committed to sacrificially give something up, fasting, and intentional times of prayer and scripture reading. Each of these disciplines, as do others, allow us to more fully engage in the season of Lent as we journey toward Easter.
Palm Sunday is April 9. This year we will include Confirmation as a part of our Palm Sunday celebration. Other worship opportunities will be available throughout Holy Week. We will gather together on Sunday, April 16, for our Easter Celebration and proclaim He is Risen.
Again this year we will have our annual revival during the first week of Lent. This year’s Lenten Revival will be led by the Reverend Jim Curtis. He will bring our message on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7. On Wednesday, March 8, our revival will be led by the Trinity United Methodist Church Praise Band. Each night of revival will include a meal at 5:30 and worship at 6:30.
I hope to see you throughout this Holy Season.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Kevin Bradley
